Birds Horses

The Bird-Horse Island residents are as unique as the island itself. But you may be surprised to know that many of the islanders have real-life counterparts!

Bird-Horse Island’s real-life counterparts

  • Real-life Noche, inspiration for Bird-Horse Island character Noche.

    Real-life Noche

Real-life Noche is just as smart and awkward as his Bird-Horse Island counterpart. But he was a bit more sneaky! He had a habit of escaping at night and then hiding right in front of us. He knew that we couldn’t see him in the dark!

  • Real-life Buster, inspiration for Bird-Horse Island character Buster.

    Real-life Buster

Real-life Buster is a tough, cordon bleu finch, just like his Bird-Horse Island counterpart! But real-life Buster isn’t a loner. He has a BFF named Sparky. They are always together, so it is fitting that the gold-breasted waxbill is included in his picture.

  • Real-life Yoona (Einstein), inspiration for Bird-Horse Island's Yoona.

    Real-life Yoona

Yoona, a common house finch, fell from her nest soon after hatching. So, she was rescued and hand-raised until she was old enough to return to the wild. She was a very sweet bird but perhaps not the prettiest baby. She had some very crazy head feathers! Unlike her Bird-Horse Island counterpart, she outgrew this to become quite sleek.

  • Real-life Moptop Gang, inspiration for Bird-Horse Island's Moptop Gang.

    The Moptop Gang

The Moptop Gang cause real trouble on Bird-Horse Island! The real-life Moptops are society finishes. Although they look like troublemakers, honestly, there aren’t any birds that are friendlier than society finches!

  • Real-life Ms. App (Cougar), inspiration for Bird-Horse Island's co-Mayor Ms. App..

    Real-life Ms. App

Real-life Ms. App is an appaloosa mare who is very sweet and a little bit stubborn. She never, ever bucked and was very gentle with children. But she could also be a bit naughty. She would often unlatch the pasture gates to let Noche out at night! (Maybe Noche put her up to it).

  • Real-life Smoky, inspiration for Bird-Horse Island's reporter Smoky.

Real-life Smoky, shown here being a good uncle to the daughter of real-life Ms. App

Real-life Smoky is a quarter horse who loved the obstacle course. He was laterally gifted and could side-step like a pro. He also rounded the barrels way better than Ms. App. But Ms. App could tiptoe through all kinds of ground obstacles, and he just generally stomped through those. If it worked, it worked. In Bird-Horse Island, he has a cameo appearance as Reporter Smoky.

  • Real-life Colette, inspiration for Bird-Horse Island's Dr. Colette..

    Real-life Dr. Colette

Real-life Colette wasn’t really a paleontologist, but she was very smart. And because she was a spoon-fed canary, she was very friendly. Just like in Bird-Horse Island, she was married to P-Air, and together they raised many babies!

  • Real-life Pierre, inspiration for Bird-Horse Island's former idol singer Pierre.

    Real-life idol singer P-Air

Real-life P-Air is not a spry young bird anymore. But in his hey-day, he was no less cool than his Bird-Horse Island counterpart. He could sing like a real idol star!
